ENTREPRENEUR OF THE MONTH

Tanya Menendez

Nicaragua / El Salvador

Tanya is a two time entrepreneur- and all seems to indicate she will be a serial entrepreneur. This successful half Nicaraguan and half Salvadorian is the CEO and co-founder of Snowball Wealth, an online platform that helps millennials understand and pay off student debt. Before creating Snowball, Tanya co-founded Maker’s Row, an online marketplace intended to “democratize” the American manufacturing industry by providing scope to small businesses and entrepreneurs.

As many of you know, it is hard to come across female founders, let alone, successful female founders using technology. Snowball, Tanya’s current startup, uses algorithms in order to implement accurate solutions for its customers. For example, one of their algorithms can help target your spending vices so you can be more aware of your habits and work toward paying off debt. Tanya is also an amazing fundraiser as was able to obtain $2.5 Million dollars in investment from Alexis Ohanian, Comcast Ventures, and Expansion Capital for her previous startup, Maker’s Row.

The best thing about Tanya, however, is that she is also socially focused. During her time at the University of California San Diego, she conducted research on the Economics of Migration, and was so successful at it, that her work was published by the educational institution. She has shared her knowledge in conferences at Harvard, Yale, a variety of financial workshops, Tech Crunch and other events focused on the Latino Community in the US.

Due to her continued success, Tanya has been honored by different organizations and was included in Forbes’ “30 Under 30”, Business Insider’s “Coolest People in Tech”, People en Español’s “Most Powerful Latinas”, and Popmechanics “25 Makers Who Are Reinventing The American Dream”, among others.

We wholeheartedly congratulate Tanya and look forward to hearing about the success of Snowball and all other future endeavours. Bravo!!!
